About North Macedonia
North Macedonia, officially known as the Republic of North Macedonia, is a landlocked country located in the Balkan Peninsula of Southeast Europe. It is bordered by Kosovo to the northwest, Serbia to the north, Bulgaria to the east, Greece to the south, and Albania to the west. The country gained its independence from Yugoslavia in 1991 and has since developed into a parliamentary democracy. North Macedonia is known for its rich history, diverse culture, and stunning natural landscapes, including the picturesque Lake Ohrid, one of the oldest and deepest lakes in Europe. The capital city, Skopje, is a vibrant hub of history, architecture, and modern development, featuring landmarks such as the Stone Bridge and the Skopje Fortress. The country is also home to a mix of ethnic groups, with Macedonians forming the majority, alongside Albanian, Turkish, and Roma communities. North Macedonia has been working towards greater integration with European and international institutions, including its accession to NATO in 2020 and ongoing efforts to join the European Union.
